Scheherezade, a 20" multi-jointed vinyl doll by Helen Kish, was
included in the 2005 line but only
completed and shipped in the spring of 2007. I have received mine
on in early April of 2007, from Annette & Friends.
Annette was
courteous & professional throughout the waiting period (with all my
queries) and I have
only good things to say about her.
Anyway, here are a few initial photos because I know you can't wait, and
then I will write a bit about what I think of this doll. I will
apologize in advance for any focus issues; my camera really needs a
trip to the shop. Warning: There will be Nekkid Doll Photos farther
down this page! I did finally get a new camera and hope to have more photos soon.

I no longer have a link to her product page at afdoll.com, and I haven't been able
to find her for sale anywhere else. She has not turned up on eBay
to my knowledge. Sometimes I think perhaps to sell mine, because
I have been downsizing my
collection, but I don't know how to determine her value. Who knows if the full
product run was even completed?
I give Scheherezade an A+ for vinyl quality, and an B+ (revised grade) for posability and sculpt.
Vinyl quality and sculpt are the things that I loved in the
Eternal Feminine dolls (Rio and Electra) and the hope for those
qualitites is what convinced me to pre-order Scheherezade, and she came
through with flying colors. While she doesn't have bendable
wrists, she does have joints at the ankle, and she can take on some
nice poses that even the CEDs can't manage. On the other hand, her jointing is
asymmetrical and takes some getting used to. Here's my favorite
photo so far:

You can see the signature, "Scheherezade 20/100 Helen Kish." And
her tiny butt, and her wonderful legs and feet. And how short her
hair is.
Her main outfit is in two pieces: the top and the bottom. The
bottom is all one piece, including pants, plain underlayer skirt, and
embroidered overlayer skirt. The top is likewise all one piece,
lined beaded jacket attached to sleeves as shown. I could not get
the top button closed on her pants, and I am not looking forward to
getting her left hand back through the shoulder/sleeve opening on her
jacket (it went back on
with surprisingly little drama). She has open-back gold slippers, and the necklace and
earrings as shown (and her rings). It is a neat outfit! I
like the design, it is not just pretty but functional too! My
only real complaint is that the waist of the pants/skirt piece is too
high; it should not be around her waist but below her [nonexistent]
navel.

And she loses points in a big way for no bellybutton! Furthermore,
how can a dancer have such a tiny flat butt? [Ed:
OK, that was lazy of me. Scheherezade was a storyteller;
she was the sultan's wife-for-a-night who won her life by telling him a
story every night, with a cliffhanger so he let her live one more night
to tell some more. Finally he granted her her life. So
maybe she wasn't much of a dancer.] The rest of her is
terrific though... hands, feet, calves, arms, rib, waist, etc.
"What were they thinking?" ==>>
Here are some links to places on the web
where you can read more about the legend
of Scheherezade:

I'm not a die-hard mohair fan, and while her wig is soft and curly,
there's not much to it and I suspect it will flatten with time. I
hope to get around to adding something to her hair but I'm not sure
what -- I never did add to Rio or Electra's thin little wigs either!
Her hoop earrings are made from metal. I think her necklace is a coated metal also.

Her hands are lovely. The rings are sculpted on in shape, then
painted, and there are little faceted gems attached. Her fingers
and toes are long and shapely; she has fingernail polish but not
toenail polish.
She appears to be strung in the shoulder, hips and neck, but inside of
her elbows and knees I can see a white plastic joint of some sort.
I could not get my camera to focus on it.
Her arms lift nicely and will hold a pose a little bit. Her legs
are looser and won't hold sometimes... they feel both loose as in
floppy, but also a bit tight in terms of resisting sometimes. Her
neck resists holding any other pose but she can tip her head up and
down as well as side to side. Here is a random posability shot:

And last but not least, here are some comparison shots with Constantia,
one of my CED dolls. (Eventually I hope to include some
comparison photos with Rio and/or Electra, and a closeup of
Scheherezade's face.)
